Fun with Cheap Hosting

Free Ringtone Heaven is hosting by GoDaddy for $7 a month but I get a rediculous amount of resources for that price. Unfortunatly the downside of this is occasionally bad service. Yesterday and part of today the site was virtually non-responsive. I was trying to download the site via FTP to back it up and it couldn’t hold a connection if I set the timeout greater than 10 seconds. 20 seconds was pushing it.

But all is back to normal it seems now. So if you were having trouble accessing the site, that’s why.

Indie-Mobile is cruising right along with 115,000+ midi files of which 55,000+ are unique and available to download. Check it out!

I was expecting 90,000

Indie-Mobile is a midi file repository I was looking forward to dumping 90,000 new files into. Unfortunatly after doing an md5 sort based on the file contents it turns out there were only about 55,000 files. 35,000 were the same files, same name just a different directory in the zip. Then, upon removing all the kar and mmf files it was reduced to a measly 48,000 files. Of those there are still dupes that just have a different name.

Of those I’m sure a large portion have (c) or copyright in the file so they won’t be made available. But regardless. You’re not going to find a larger collection of midi files anywhere. The cool thing about Indie-Mobile is that all the text from the midi files is yanked out and stored in the database making it very easy to find what you’re looking for. Indie-Mobile also displays all that text when browsing so you can get a much better idea what a file actually is.

Indie-Mobile is back

I’ve decided to relaunch Indie-Mobile. Unlike Free Ringtone Heaven which is nicely organized and pleasant on the eyes, the goal of Indie-Mobile is to simply cram as many midi files in one place as possible. Also, instead of just displaying the name of the midi file, Indie-Mobile is displaying the entire text contents of the midi files which can include lyrics, song title, artists, etc. Google should have fun with this one.

The net result is a slightly messier site but for those who search Google for ringtones, Indie-Mobile will most likely pop up a lot more. The design is still in progress and subject to frequent changes.

Suntasia in the News

Google News - Suntasia

Apparently Slashdot is a trusted news source for Google. Recently they had an “Ask Slashdot” on whether the Do Not Call List was working. I promptly posted a short blurb on Suntasia and voila, it’s in the news.

Not only can you now find my site through Google News but when I posted that comment I received a rediculous amount of hits. Comments don’t usually drive that much traffic but I guess when the title of your post is “Sue Them” and is rated a +5 it gets some more attention.

Hopefully this will spark more awareness about the company. Quite a few important government agencies have now viewed Suntasia Sucks as well as news agencies.

Suntasia Sucks

We just finished suing Suntasia for violating the TCPA on two counts. We ended up settling out of court and they got stuck with their lawyer bill. We actually sued them in small claims so we wouldn’t have to deal with lawyers. We didn’t count on Suntasia being run by idiots who decided it would be a good idea to waste money on an expensive lawyer over a $1000 suit.
