Finally

Indie-MOZ is finally back up after being down since April when the server drive crashed. The new version makes use of some clever tricks to make it possible for a 900Mhz PIII to handle the entire DMOZ db using PHP and mySQL. Previously it was entirely flatfile driven which really beats up a harddrive. To get where it’s at I had to go from the database to flatfile and back to database. The entire process took a couple weeks and nearly cost me another harddrive. Fortunatly Seagate drives are highly resiliant.

The new version is very fast and very efficient and will possibly be made available for a price. The final process of getting the flatfile directory into the database takes only about 30 minutes. I’m considering providing everything needed to complete the final step. The end result is a massive web-site with ads.

And we all know that big site + ads == money
